What's the talk about?

Founded in 2008 by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, GOOP has gone from a weekly lifestyle newsletter to a multi million dollar enterprise offering a plethora of new-age 'wellness' products and services.

They hit the headlines again recently with the release of a six-part documentary series on Netflix 'The GOOP Lab'. The show features a plethora of pseudoscientific topics such as energy healing, psychedelic drugs, cold therapy, anti-aging, mediumship, and female sexuality.

In this talk we will take a look at the Goop website - some of their products, the claims they make (with the safety net of a carefully crafted legal disclaimer), and assess the risk to public health.

As a microbiologist working in the NHS, Tracey Jolliffe has presented many talks to a diverse range of audiences, including to Glasgow and Edinburgh Skeptics, and at QED. She has spoken on several medical and scientific subjects, as well as on her hobby of bats. In her spare time, she is a licenced bat worker and runs a wildlife hospital caring for sick and injured bats.

She also volunteers as an ambassador for the kidney donation charity "Give A Kidney"
